David became a member of the Board of Directors following the merger of Chalmers and Hucker & Booker in 2002.
Born in 1965 in Bath and brought up in the village of Westwood near Bradford - on - Avon, David attended school at Trowbridge where he represented his County at cross country running and the 400m hurdles. He took part in the National Athletics Championships where he finished 13th in the Country. He continues to enjoy his running and has moved on to middle distances such as 5 and 10 kilometres.
David was brought up with business administration all around him as his family ran a successful building construction and joinery business based in Bath since 1965, with his mother dealing with all the administration and secretarial matters. He often had an adding machine and a pile of invoices to list from an early age!
After spending a year studying for his accountancy foundation at the University of the West of England (Bristol), David joined Moore Stephens in Bath as an articled clerk leading to qualification as a Chartered Accountant and the role of Audit Manager after 5 years.
After a period of seven years in professional practice, a role in industry beckoned, and in 1992 David joined a European garden building products manufacturing company, listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, with a base in Bridgwater Somerset and a turnover of £75 million. David became UK Group Reporting Accountant. His role involved a lot of travel in the UK between divisions and air travel to Holland for regular finance meetings with the Group Finance Director. David has gained valuable experience from his seven years working in this sector.
When David joined Hucker and Booker in 1999 he took on responsibility for an existing portfolio of clients covering a wide range of businesses.
David subsequently took over another portfolio of clients following the retirement of Peter Ballan, many of whom are in the Agricultural industry.
David has two daughters and lives in Shepton Mallet. He is a keen hockey player for West Wilts Hockey Club, where he is also the Treasurer. David is also an enthusiastic gardener and enjoys the occasional round of golf.
