Additional 'no deal' Brexit documents published by government

25 Sep 2018

The government has published additional Brexit advisory documents, outlining how a 'no deal' scenario could affect air travel.

The latest technical notices analyse how aviation security and safety could be impacted if the government fails to secure a Brexit deal with the EU.

In the event of 'no deal', UK airlines would 'lose the automatic right to operate air services between the UK and the EU without seeking advance permission', the document stated.

EU-licensed airlines would lose the ability to operate wholly within the UK, and UK airlines would lose the right to operate intra-EU flights, the government said.

Responding to the publication of the latest technical notices, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) stated that the documents have only served to intensify small firms' Brexit concerns.

Mike Cherry, National Chairman of the FSB, said: 'So far, the government has released three tranches of information that really hit home the message that a chaotic no deal Brexit will be damaging and dangerous for our small firms.

'Many smaller firms rely on hauliers for delivering goods across the EU and for bringing goods in. A no deal Brexit could pose a real threat to these businesses as EU community licenses issued by the UK might not be automatically recognised by the EU.'
